The world’s largest investors (pensions, governments, endowments) are making exceptional shifts in their portfolios further into private markets as they seek to improve and stabilize their future returns. These markets typically average better returns, lower volatility and greater overall opportunity.

Private Markets make up a larger share of the investment world than the public ones, they also have historically outperformed and provided better stability – the drawback, most investors aren’t acutely aware of them, or how to participate effectively if they do.

Unlike public markets, where much of the value these days is derived from market sentiment (news/pr/market shifts/etc.) and fundamentals of the actual businesses/stocks are more a side note. Because the private markets are private, their value and growth is more cemented in the actual fundamental performance, not speculation – providing better accountability, ability to grow organically, and thus increased investment stability (lower volatility).

Regulations and hurdles have continue to be amended to allow for more access for investors to participate in the private markets than they historically had – as the government acknowledges the benefits of these markets and the opportunity they can afford the larger swath of individual investors.
